Our Purpose
- Our purpose is defined by six (6) distinctive features: Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, Evangelism and Prayer—in the Holy Spirit are the biblical characteristics that separate the church from other social organizations.
- These six Biblical features are visible identifying marks of the Portmore Holiness Christian Church (PHCC).
These distinctive features are defined as:
- Worship: The expression of gratitude to God for who He is, is expressed visibly in the services and in the spiritual lives of the believer made possible by the Holy Spirit.
- Fellowship: The expression of the unity of the body of Christ visibly in the love and sharing made possible by the Holy Spirit.
- Discipleship: The equipping of the believers through theinculcation of biblical and theological principles. This enhances the maturity of the body of Christ through the Holy Spirit.
- Ministry: Providing the opportunity of services to each other and the church community also provides opportunity for using gifts and talents to build up the body of Christ.
- Evangelism: The church’s response to the Great Commission, thus advancing the Kingdom of God, visible in the growth of the local church by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Prayer: Prayer is the church’s means of empowering. It is established as the foundation of the church. Prayer determines the success of all the other ecclesiastical imperatives. The prayer is authenticated because it is done in the Holy Spirit.
“Transforming Lives Through the Power and Ministry of Jesus Christ"
- This is our interpretation of a practical and biblical mandate that motivate us towards ministry. This mandate is employed to help persons to develop Christ-like character and to fulfil their God-given potentials.
- This approach to Ministry has potential for explosive growth and effective nurture of the local church. The goal of growing and maturing lives is commanded by Christ: “Go make disciples…’ (Matthew 28:19 NIV). Answering His call is to personally accept this awesome responsibility to transform lives.
- To engage in ‘Transforming Lives’ involves:
- Accepting people where we find them and where they are in their life experiences,
- Helping them find healing for their hearts and minds,
- Teaching them to build trusting relationships through love and
- Showing them how to experience Christ’s forgiveness
This will include pastors, leaders and members being driven by well-defined purpose and informed by specific core values.
